BODKINS
>>>><<<<
bodkins are large blunt tipped needles that I use to lace my 18th century stays;; the name comes from the Middle English “boydekin” meaning dagger;;; these tools were used in everyday dressing from the 15th-18th centuries. many photos of lovely extant examples can be found online in museum collections!
these bodkins are cast in solid sterling silver and finished in a patina that brings out the intricate carved designs on their shaft. these were hand fabricated in fine silver in my home studio, then lost wax cast. they are not very sharp, and not designed for sewing! however, they are perfect in aiding your historical dressing!
