Glass Pot Rouge
Glass Pot Rouge
Made using a recipe adapted from Every Woman’s Encyclopedia published 1910, this balm rouge adds a flush of rosy color to the cheeks and lips. I loved the idea of a sexy little jar that sits on a table of dresser in a person’s boudoir; a beautiful ritual object! the lids of these glass jars are cast in white bronze and emblazoned with a burst of stars.
glass and bronze jar is reusable after rouge is finished!
This recipe includes Almond oil, Beeswax, Alkanet Root, Rose Petals, and Carmine, a Cochineal derived pigment. Cochineal is a scale insect that lives on prickly pear cactus, and has been used for centuries for its brilliant red color, from the British Redcoats of the 18th century, to contemporary food + cosmetic dyes. Anything labeled “cochineal, carmine, carminic acid, carmine extract, Natural Red 4, Crimson Lake” is made of these delightful little insects.
No synthetic dyes or fragrance!
